Mercury is found in thermometers, barometers, manometers, sphygmomanometers, float valves, and other scientific apparatus, in amalgam material for dental restoration, liquid-mirror telescopes, and is widely used in the manufacture of mascara. Mercury compounds are found in some over-thecounter drugs, including topical antiseptics, stimulant laxatives, diaper-rash ointment, eye drops, and nasal sprays.
