Methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol is a broad-spectrum ultraviolet radiation absorber (UVA and UVB) found in personal care products including sunscreens, insect repellants, hair care, and cosmetic products. Chemical sunscreen agents diminish the penetration of ultraviolet (UV) light through the epidermis by absorbing UV radiation within a specific wavelength range. Methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol is also used in the plastics industry to impart light stability to polymers as e.g. acrylic resins, polyalkylene terephthalates, polyamides, polyacetals or polycarbonates.
